Overtone Singing
This amazing style of singing was created long ago on the steps of central Asia. Tuva is an indipendent republic of Russia, and with the fall of the USSR they enjoy relative independance. The people of Tuva are historically hearders (Sheep, reindeer, camels, goats) and anamists. Everything natural has a soul, and if you wish to bring some of the power of nature (the wind, the horse, the field, the waterfall) into your soul, you should immitate it's sound. From this background the Tuvans learned to manipulate overtones, singing 2 and 3 notes at once, in a much more dextrous way than the Buddhist Monks. In the MPEG I begin with a passage in Sygyt (Whistle), then Kargyrra, and then add my own touch to this incredible sound.
Thanks to David Franklin for shooting the MPEG.
